Team News: Worcester Valkyries vs Saracens Women

The return of Saracens Women’s international players means head coach Alex Austerberry has reshuffled his team for the trip to Worcester Valkyries on Saturday.

Elle Perry, who made her first England appearances in the Quilter autumn internationals, slots back in at loosehead prop, while Vicky Fleetwood and Zoe Harrison start at flanker and fly-half respectively and Sarah McKenna returns to full-back.

Of the other internationals, Marlie Packer and Cleall sisters Bryony and Poppy are injured and miss out, and Hannah Botterman and Scotland’s Jodie Rettie start among the replacements.

Last weekend the Women in Black faced top-of-the-table Loughborough Lightning, winning 29-0 to leapfrog them into pole position; this week the opposition are bottom of the table, having amassed just three points all season.

Austerberry warned against complacency however.

“Once again the quality and depth of our squad will be tested with a double header fixture against Worcester,” he said. “Last week the players really stepped up, and we are absolutely relishing the challenge of the Valkyries this week.

“We know it will be a tough battle. In the reverse fixture they won the breakdown fight and in turn caused a lot of problems for us as a side.

“With the work we have put in we are hoping we can perform better in that area and perform to the levels we set ourselves. As a group we are under no illusions – we will have to perform to our best and maximise any and all of the opportunities that come our way.”
