The BBC Go Inside with Get Onside
On Monday 23rd July the One Show on BBC One featured the Saracens Sport Foundation’s Get Onside project in Feltham Young Offenders Institute.
The feature was about the increase in violent crime amongst young men and focused on the young men in Feltham who have participated in the Get Onside project and highlighted the project as a successful intervention in reducing re-offending amongst young men.
The Senior Development Manager for Inclusion at Saracens Sport Foundation said "It is great to see the Get Onside programme being featured in the media and on a platform like The One Show. It is one of the programmes that we are particularly proud of at the Saracens Sport Foundation because it embodies everything that we try and do as a charity. The participants we work with in Feltham have so much potential to make incredible things happen in their own lives and we use rugby to give them the opportunity to explore how to develop and harness this potential. Sport and rugby in particular has an amazing power to bring out the best in people and that’s exactly what you see happen in Feltham. We’re really excited about where the programme is heading and look forward to using sport to create change in people’s lives in the future.”
Get Onside has been funded in the most part through Comic Relief and underpinned by additional funding from contributors to the Foundation. With funding from Comic Relief coming to an end this year, these contributions are more important than ever in allowing us to continue delivering Get Onside and sustain the success we have seen with the young offenders in Feltham YOI.
