The season so far in numbers

We are well over halfway in the season and the stats will make pleasing reading for Saracens Women head coach Alex Austerberry over the Christmas break.

From 13 rounds of the Tyrrells Premier 15s, Saracens are comfortably the leading try scorers, with 90 scored - nine more than the next best, Gloucester-Hartpury.

In the of five games leading up to Christmas, the Women in Black have plundered 466 points, and their defence has been rock solid too, conceding just 15 tries – largely  thanks to going four successive matches without any team crossing their try line.

Four players are among the league’s top ten points scorers – Georgie Lingham (65), Bryony Cleall (55), Poppy Cleall (35) and Vicky Fleetwood (35).

Lingham has been in electric form this season, blazing up and down the right wing with her searing pace for 13 tries, and she has also stepped up for kicking duties in place of Lauren Cattell in several games. Both players are in the top ten kickers – Cattell with 52 and Lingham with 18.

Thirty tries have been scored by the back row – nearly twice as many as the next best team.

Austerberry said: “It’s nice for the hard work and dedication of our individuals and groups to be recognised with these statistics. They show we’re doing a lot right.

“However, while it’s nice to read these headlines, stats can sometimes paint a rosier picture than it is. We won’t be sitting back and resting on our laurels, we will continue to work hard and develop, and that will define our success rather than statistics.

“We will make sure we rest and prepare diligently over the break to ensure we’re in the best possible position come April.”
