This Season's Match Day Festivals Are Biggest So Far
At our last home game, vs Newcastle Falcons in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, we hosted a total of 52 teams in the biggest match day festival of the season so far.
52 teams from the U7 and U8 age groups arrived at Allianz Park bright and early for an action-packed day of rugby that saw them play a handful of games before getting to see the Saracens claim a successful win.
For many of the rugby clubs involved this was their first visit to Allianz Park, and for many of the children involved was the first opportunity to grace the new 4G Allianz Park pitch and follow in the footsteps of their rugby heroes.
Each team played a number of games and were scored in line with the club’s core values of Work Rate and Honesty, along with an assessment of the ‘energy’ they brought to the festival throughout the day and ‘side-line culture’. A big mention should go to Sevenoaks RFC who accumulated the highest scores of 71 and 73 from a possible 80 for both the U7’s and U8’s respectively.
James, the U8 coach at Chichester RFC, summed up the day stating that the "parents and players really enjoyed the day out despite the weather; from the top facilities to the standard of refereeing to the quality of the pork and apple sausage rolls: best I've tasted!"
Another James, coach at Maldon RFC, praised the day despite the tough weather conditions mentioning that "the organisation on the day was excellent, matches played to schedule, and the standard of refereeing was excellent, very sensible, very consistent and I loved how our ref talked to the kids all the way through the games."
Coming up, we are looking forward to another U7/8 festival with a focus on the club core values of Discipline and Humility taking place on the 10th of December as we welcome Sale Sharks in the European Cup.
Bookings are now open for all U9 and U10 teams to take part in our match day festival on the 7th January, on the same day that we see a repeat of last season’s Premiership Final: Saracens vs Exeter Chiefs. What better way to start the new year!
