Saracens Sport Foundation is the charitable arm of Saracens Rugby Club. The charity works across Hertfordshire and North London to inspire communities and change lives through the power of sport. We’re dedicated to bringing about positive change and through our programmes, we engage and challenge participants to lead active, healthy and rewarding lives. We aim to address specific social needs within our community by encouraging increased participation in sport and physical activity; breaking down barriers to participation for specific excluded groups, developing interventions to address health issues and developing pathways and inspiring young people into education and employment.

Job title: Foundation Manager

Reporting to: Community Director      

Purpose of the Role:

As the Foundation Manager you will have day to day responsibility for the management and strategic development of the charity. You will manage and coach a team of Senior Development Managers ensuring that they achieve agreed strategic objectives and targets and experience continuous personal development and growth. You will have overall responsibility of the charity’s budget, working alongside the Financial Controller and Senior Development Managers to make sure sound financial controls are in place and working with the Fundraising Team to maximise revenue generation. The charity has an extensive network of partners which you will oversee and extend, delivering shared value to the charity and our partners.

This is a hugely rewarding role within an ambitious sport for social change charity. We’re looking for an inspiring and passionate leader with strong management and communication skills and experience of developing and implementing impactful community development programmes.


Key Responsibilities

  • To provide strategic and inspirational leadership for the charity
  • To lead the development and delivery against the charity's Strategic Plan
  • Contribute to the delivery and direction of an annual fundraising strategy and maintain an up to date knowledge of the funding landscape
  • Manage relationships with appropriate donors, corporates, third sector and statutory partners
  • Maintain and develop strategic partnerships to assist the charity in achieving its purpose
  • To oversee the financial security and long-term sustainability of the charity
  • Manage the charities finances, setting income and budget targets, to ensure the charity breaks even
  • To deliver strong operational leadership and management
  • Provide effective leadership to the charities staff, ensuring that all staff follow a programme of continuous professional development
  • To be a figurehead and major contributor to the PR and communications activities of the charity
  • To contribute to the delivery of an effective communications plan across a range of platforms
  • Identify opportunities for innovative new programming across the charity’s core pillars and support staff in the implementation of these
  • To oversee all governance, monitoring and evaluation and reporting
  • Lead on the knowledge and dissemination of current policy and research around the Foundation’s core areas of work
  • Support and guide the Board of Trustees to fulfil its governance function efficiently and effectively.

Degree qualified




·       Experience and proven track record of working in a leadership position within an organisation of comparable size and complexity

·       Ability to think strategically and creatively with excellent analytical skills

·       Consolidated experience of preparing and delivering annual and long-term business plans

·       Good strategic financial knowledge and understanding

·       Experience of successful management of organisation and staff structure

·       Experience of developing innovative and high-quality community programmes

·       Good experience in monitoring and evaluating business and project performance

·       A record of successfully managing a motivated, skilled team of staff to achieve their goals over a substantial period

·       Experience and confidence in public speaking and report writing

·       Excellent planning and organisation skills, written and verbal communication skills

·       Previous experience in a senior managerial position in the charitable sector

·       Experience of UK charity law and governance issues

·       Working understanding of the challenges of voluntary /charitable sector organisations

·       Experience of developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies

·       Experience of fundraising and securing income through a variety of sources; for example, Personal/ Community, Major Donors, Corporate, Legacy, Grants and Trusts

·       Experience and confidence in dealing with press and media

·       Effective user of social media for promoting the organisation

·       Previous experience of involvement in sports clubs/organisations


·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·       Effective at building relationships with colleagues, partners, donors and potential supporters

·       Strong track record of income generation

·       Understanding of fundraising sources and trends

·       Knowledge of the governance and legal frameworks related to charities

·       High quality presentation skills

·       Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to a range of audiences

·       Confident and able in meetings and in networking environments, often with people in senior positions


·       Effective at creating reports for Boards and/or Trustees

·       Expert knowledge and understanding of at least one of the following areas: sport, health, youth, education, school sport and physical education
