We always set high standards - Williams
Liam Williams admits Saracens haven’t quite reached their best level of performance in the Gallagher Premiership this season despite picking up two bonus-points wins in the opening two rounds.
The Men in Black battled hard for victory at Newcastle Falcons before being given a stern test by the league’s newcomers Bristol Bears at Allianz Park.
Sarries head up the M1 to take on Northampton Saints this weekend with the side looking to up their game to make sure of at least another four points.
“We always set high standards,” Williams told Sarries TV.
“We always expect to be beating teams and we regard ourselves as the champions. We try and put on as many points as we can but it’s not all about that; we try and go out there and get the feeling of playing well as a group.
“The first two weeks as a group hasn’t been great, but we got the results we wanted and we’re looking forward to this weekend now.”
He continued: “You have to be on your game against any team in the English Premiership especially Saints.
“We played them a couple of times last year and beat them reasonably well but they’ve had a couple of new signings this year and they’ll be a decent team.
“The boys and I can’t wait to go there and give them a decent shot.”
Williams will be coming up against his Wales teammate Dan Biggar following the fly-half’s move to Northampton in the summer and it’s a contest the 27-year-old is relishing.
“He’s a great bloke, Dan,” he said.
“I’ve played with him for our country for a while now, so it’ll be nice to go there and play against him and have a catch up with him after the game. I just hope he doesn’t take too many high balls during the game!”
Next up at Allianz Park for Mark McCall’s men is Gloucester on Sunday 23rd September. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased at www.saracens.com/tickets.
