'We got what we deserved' - McCall
Mark McCall bemoaned Saracens’ poor performance as the slipped to an away defeat to Worcester but was quick to back his side to bounce back after a disappointing afternoon at Sixways.
Saracens were uncharacteristically off colour as they slipped to only their third defeat of the season in the Aviva Premiership as Worcester ran out 24-18 winners at Sixways. All of the Warriors’ points were scored by outside half Ryan Mills who landed eight penalties from nine penalties in an almost flawless kicking display.
“We got we deserved as we weren’t good enough today,” said McCall. “Our set-piece wasn’t at its best and our penalty count today tells its own story. When you go behind in a game like that, sometimes you chase the game and we made a lot of errors – it’s very disappointing. Worcester kicked very well and I thought their half-backs were very good but there are a number of aspects of our game that we’re disappointed with.
McCall though was keen to draw a line under a disappointing day at the office by looking ahead to a tough trip away to Gloucester next Friday, he said: “This group though has history of responding to set-back and we have a chance to do so next Friday away to Gloucester. Playing at Kingsholm is always a very difficult fixture, we have a short turnaround so we’re focussing on that.”
