We’re going to have to be a lot better - Maitland
Sean Maitland says Saracens need to up their performance for this weekend’s match with Cardiff Blues.
The Scotland international score two second-half tries in a fantastic personal display against the Welsh side in the Heineken Champions Cup last Sunday, a match which saw Sarries come from behind.
Blues had deservedly led at the break by five points before the interval rallied Mark McCall’s men and ensured a positive response in the second 40.
“We probably didn’t play our best rugby, but we kicked into fifth gear in the second half and managed to put in some good rugby,” Maitland said.
“It was about taking our opportunities; we didn’t take them in the first half which was frustrating but in the second we were a bit more patient which was pleasing.”
Maitland admits Sarries will be up against a different test on Saturday although they face Cardiff for a second time in quick succession.
Cardiff Arms Park will be packed out and with a full crowd behind them, it is set to be a vociferous occasion.
“It’s going to be different altogether this weekend. It’ll be a different atmosphere, different 4G pitch and playing away from home is always tough.
“We know we’re going to have to be a lot better, especially than the first half last week.”
