Win puts us in a great position - Goode
Alex Goode says the win at Cardiff Blues was really pleasing although there are areas of Saracens’ game that need to improve.
Following the 51-26 win over the Welsh club, Sarries travelled to Arms Park and were made to grind out a result with Jamie George’s late try securing victory following Sean Maitland’s early score and four Owen Farrell penalties.
The victory maintains Mark McCall’s side’s position at the top of their Heineken Champions Cup pool and leaves them in a good place to secure a home quarter-final with two games remaining.
“It was a massive win and it puts us in a great position in the group,” Goode said.
“We weren’t really at our best at times but to come through and show massive resilience with 14 men in the last 15 minutes was fantastic.
“Credit to us to step up in the second half as there were certainly things we weren’t happy with in the first half.
“To come to a tough place like this and get a result and to fight right until the end is fantastic so we’re really happy with that.”
In front of a packed house at Cardiff Arms Park and with several bodies returning from injury, Cardiff stepped up their physicality and performance from their loss at Allianz Park a week earlier.
Goode admits Saracens knew that would be the pace and says the Men in Black didn’t help themselves at times.
“We always knew they would raise their game and play well. From our point of view, we could have helped ourselves a bit more especially in the first half.
“We had a great start and allowed them back into it so massive things to work on and we have to take our mentality to another level.”
