Woolstencroft delighted with Sarries debut
Tom Woolstencroft was delighted to get his Saracens career off to a winning start.
The hooker, who joined from London Irish in the summer, made his first competitive start for the Men in Black, playing 78 minutes in the 29-21 Premiership Rugby Cup victory over Leicester Tigers.
Former Bath man Woolstencroft has waited patiently for his senior Sarries debut after a couple of Storm outings and says the squad have put in the graft to deserve their opportunity.
He said: “To get my first team debut means everything to me and for it to be with a great bunch of boys as well is great.
“The last few weeks have been tough and we’ve been grinding it out to get that shot, everyone together and it was class.”
He continued: “I thought the boys put in a massive shift. It was a physical game from start to finish, we executed the game plan well and we’re pleased with the result.
“It was tough. We all brought ourselves into together and realised there was ill-discipline and once we adjusted that, things seemed to go a bit smoother.”
Sarries travel to Sale Sharks in Round 2 of the Premiership Rugby Cup, who suffered defeat last time out.
The Manchester club fielded a young side against Worcester Warriors and whilst Woolstencroft admits he's unsure what team they'll put out on Friday, he expects them to be physical.
"For us, our mindset doesn’t change; we stick to what we do," he said.
"They’re always a big, physical side and it’s going to be a huge battle, especially in the forwards."
