Wray excited for Sarries to take another step forward

Jackson Wray is looking for Saracens Men's to take another step forward and keep up the momentum against Leicester Tigers on Sunday.

The Men in Black extended their unbeaten run in all competitions this season with a win over Sale Sharks last weekend and were made to work hard for long periods in defence for their five points.

Autumn sees Sarries lose a lot of their players to international duty each season, but Wray says it is a chance for other members in the squad to take the team forward.

“This period is always tough for the club as we lose a lot of players, but the squad has done really well, the standard in training is still really good and it’s time like these where we need the preparation, we need the boys to come in and take their opportunity.

“It’s exciting to be a part of that and it’s an opportunity in this period to keep the club going in the right direction. We took another good step forward last week and hopefully this weekend will be another.”

Saracens have won their last two matches at Welford Road, but the home of Leicester is a historically a tough place to go.

Wray admits Mark McCall’s side will need to step up in terms of performance and adds the Wolfpack are excited for another epic meeting with the Tigers.

He said: “Last weekend we were very good in parts but off it in some so we know this weekend we’ll have to be on it for longer to try and counter the threats they have and get what we want out of the game.

“We want to take our performance on again from last week. We need to be more switched on in terms of our discipline and not let them into the areas they enjoy being in.

“Every time we go to Welford Road it’s a challenge. Whatever part of the season you go there you’re in for a big battle and a big crowd.

“The atmosphere is always very good; we’ve had some really good games up there in the past few years and the boys are looking forward to it.”
