Wray wary of dangerous Wasps side

Welcoming Wasps to Allianz Park is never an easy fixture. Never more so when they are on the back of three straight losses and desperate for a win.

They are a rare side with some success at Allianz Park – winning in North London as recently as February 2016 – and will come out fighting harder than ever in Sunday’s sell-out.

To avoid a slip up, according to Jackson Wray, Saracens must be wary of their opponents.

He said: “We know what it’s like when you lose games back-to-back. It’s very frustrating and they will be working very hard this week. They are going to be very focused on their training, and we know this weekend they are going to come out firing. So, it is up for us to be ready for that.”

Last season’s Premiership finalists opened the year with back-to-back wins over Sale and Worcester, but have stumbled against tough opposition, coming up short against Harlequins, Exeter Chiefs, and Bath over the last three weeks.

Nonetheless, Wasps remain one of the most dangerous attacking teams in the competition and have made a habit of starting games fast. Through five games, they have scored the second most tries (5) in the first 20-minutes of games, narrowly behind Saracens who lead the Premiership with six first-quarter tries.

On preparing for the challenge, Wray said: “They have a very dangerous back line if they have space. They can cut you apart in the blink of an eye.

“It is our job to prepare well, limit their space, and make the most of the opportunities that we can create. We are looking for a very physical, intense performance against a very good side.”

Wasps - like many sides - have been hurt by injuries, and are much better than their eighth-place record suggests. Sunday’s contest promises to be another classic at Allianz Park.
