Round 1-6 Premiership TV picks confirmed
Premiership Rugby can today confirm the fixtures for the first six rounds of the Aviva Premiership Rugby season, including 18 matches live on BT Sport.
Saracens round two clash away to Gloucester Rugby has been moved to Friday 23rd October, kick-off 19h45 and will be televised live on BT Sport. Other Saracens games to be televised will be the north Londoners clash against Northampton Saints at Franklin's Gardens on Saturday 7th November (kick-off 15h15), against Worcester Warriors at the London Double Header on Saturday 28th November (15h15 kick-off) and an away trip to Newcastle Falcons on Sunday 6th December (kick-off 15h00).
With the competition starting six weeks later than normal – due to the Rugby World Cup – Premiership Rugby and BT Sport have taken the unprecedented step of confirming the fixtures a full 13 weeks ahead of the first match on 16 October.
This decision has been made to allow supporters and the 12 Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs time to plan for what is expected to be a compelling new season.
The television selections have presented newly-promoted Worcester Warriors with a compelling start, in front of the BT Sport cameras, against the champions of 2014, Northampton Saints on Friday 16 October. The opener is followed less than 24 hours later when last season's runners-up Bath Rugby entertain the side that finished fifth, Exeter Chiefs.
The tenth anniversary London Double Header will take place at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday 28 November, with both matches live on BT Sport, Saracens taking on Worcester Warriors at 3.15pm, followed by London Irish hosting Wasps at 5.30pm.
On the weekends of the Rugby World Cup semi-finals and Final, BT Sport will show two live matches, the first on Friday 23 October sees the champions, Saracens travel to Kingsholm and two days later the Leicester Tigers make their 2015-16 live TV debut at home to Conor O'Shea's Harlequins.
The day after the Rugby World Cup Final BT Sport will show an intriguing double-header with Exeter Chiefs heading to Newcastle Falcons followed by Leicester Tigers hosting Wasps in a Midlands derby.
Once the Rugby World Cup is over BT Sport will deliver three televised blockbusters showing four live matches in both rounds four, five and six.
"This season we have given supporters more notice than ever before of the televised fixtures to ensure they can plan ahead. This was an important issue for us and we thank BT Sport for their co-operation to achieve this objective,” said Premiership Rugby's Commercial Director Dominic Hayes.
"This season is the start of a new six-year deal with BT Sport to broadcast Aviva Premiership Rugby live and after seeing the audience grow by 50% over the previous two campaigns we are delighted to be kicking off the new era in style.”
Simon Green, head of BT Sport said: "2015 is an exciting year for rugby union and we're looking forward to our third season of broadcasting the Aviva Premiership and continuing to grow audiences on BT Sport.”
