Club Statement - Nelson Mandela
Saracens mourns the passing of Nelson Mandela, and sends condolences to the people of South Africa.
Nigel Wray, chairman, said: “This news will sadden hundreds of millions of people all around the world, not least the global rugby community. He touched our sport through his inspirational role in the hosting of the memorable 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa, and he touched our club through his personal impact on many of our directors, players and supporters.
“Together with so many around the world, as a club, we will continue to be inspired by the example of Nelson Mandela.”
As a mark of respect, the Saracens team will wear black armbands during the Heineken Cup match against Zebre in Parma on Saturday.
