Saracens 'relishing' Clermont test - Hamilton
Saracens prepare to face French giants ASM Clermont Auvergne at Allianz Park, in Round One of the European Champions Cup on Saturday.
One player who has been able to keep a close eye on the Top 14 side is Jim Hamilton. The giant lock forward played in the French league for Montpellier last season, and says Saracens are “relishing” the challenge of facing Clermont this weekend.
"They are a huge outfit, and they have a lot of good players," said Hamilton. "I think it’s fair to say they’re one of the most respected teams in Europe.
“Statistically, Clermont have the best scrum in the Top 14. Like all French sides they have a great maul, and they have some really physical players. That’s something we’re aware of and something we are preparing for, but we are relishing the challenge as well.”
Saturday’s game is a repeat of last season’s Heineken Cup semi-final, a game in which Saracens ran out comfortable winners. Hamilton though is keen to stress that this seasons clash we be different affair.
“It’s a new season so a new challenge,” said Hamilton. “They have a new coaching set-up, with a few new additions to an already strong squad. I’d imagine Saturday will be a completely different encounter to the one last season.”
