Saracens Women hand out awards

Saracens Women celebrated an unforgettable season at their annual Awards dinner at Allianz Park. The women’s side finished as Premiership and National Cup Champions, securing the ‘double’ for the first time since 2008.

The club paid tribute to the contribution of the players in what has been a highly successful season both on and off the pitch and eight individual player awards were presented during the night.

Retiring Captain and ex England international, Maggie Alphonsi was honoured by her teammates as their Player’s Player. A fitting ending for a hero of the club and of the Women’s game and another accolade to add after winning the World Cup less than 12 months ago.

The formidable no. 8 Sonia Green, now in her 13th season, picked up the trophy for Captain’s Player from fellow backrow partner Alphonsi.

Powerhouse prop Kerrie-Ann Craddock received the Coaches Player award after a fantastic season leading the squad from the front.

Scrumhalf, George Gulliver slotted seamlessly into the starting squad this season, making an instant impact and was named Best Newcomer.

The Most Improved Player award went to Lotte Clapp. The young winger developed rapidly over the course of the season and was also rewarded with a starting jersey for England U20s squad.

The evening also celebrated the success of Saracens 2XV after the side finished runners up in the Championship. Captain, Charlotte Hamlyn Williams received the coaches player award for the second consecutive year after leading her side. Marcella Collins and Laura Dowsett were also rewarded for their efforts picking up the Player’s Player and Captain’s Player awards.
