Saracens Women secure the Double - Reaction

Saracens Women beat Wasps Ladies 31-12 on Saturday to win the Women's Premiership Cup Final, and in the process, secure a historic League and Cup double.

Here we take a look at how the Saracens Women's players and staff reacted to such a special day.

Captain, Sonia Green

"Playing a quality Premiership team like Wasps in a National Cup Final is the reason we play rugby. We have worked hard as a group in training and in previous rounds of the cup to be able to right some of our wrongs from the previous game against Wasps in which we lost. We went away and worked on our work at the breakdown, attack from line out and line speed in defence, as we knew these were areas Wasps had dominated in previously.

"Competition for a place in the Cup Final squad has been tight and has made training at Allianz each week intense, especially as some of more experienced England players have been away on 6 Nations and 7s duty. It was fantastic to be able to captain a team with some promising young talent that have broken through from the second team, as well as playing along side some of the more experienced players such as ex-England player Charlotte Barras who is back from injury and Irish players Kerrie-Ann Craddock and Hannah Casey.

"I am very proud of what the girls and coaching team have achieved this season on and off the field and doing the double is testament to everyone's commitment to Saracens. I can't wait to start my 14th season with the club in September but before that we have 7s season to focus. We are very lucky to have a number of talented 7s players at the club and hope to bring some more silverware home!"

Head coach, Rob Cain

"To have won the league and national cup is a great feeling and thoroughly deserved by all the girls, coaching staff and support team. I don't think it has completely set in for some of them but when the penny finally drops they will realise what a wonderful and difficult achievement this is. For me personally, You couldn't write a better script - beating Richmond away in the semi final and Wasps in the final, the only 2 teams to have beaten us in really close fought games during the season. Fitting that we ended up on top after righting those results.

"The groups hard work and mindset really showed through again yesterday with our convincing 31-12 win against a very talented and spirited Wasps team.

"To have so many different combinations and players represent the club throughout the cup competition really has showed just how much great talent and depth we have and continued to highlight to me just how fortunate I am to to have such a hard working , willing , talented and determined squad to work with. It's great to have the trophies back in the cabinet, making history by securing the double and creating some wonderful memories during the season."

Saracens Player of the match, Zira Handley

"Winning the double and being top try scorer for the campaign was obviously something incredible; however doing it with and for Saracens made it even more special. It's going to take something big to top this feeling ... I've still got the biggest grin on my face! To get a hat trick in the final was a perfect ending to a perfect season. I might have been the one to dot the ball down but it was a real team effort. The forwards were incredible and bossed it upfront which always makes my life much easier!"
