Scrummaging prowess delights Du Plessis
Petrus Du Plessis was at the cornerstone of another dominant Saracens scrummaging performance, as the north London side convincingly brushed aside Irish giants Munster in a 33-10 win.
The dependable tighthead, who has started every game during Saracens’ European Champions Cup campaign, praised his fellow forwards after they produced a powerful set-piece performance.
Speaking after the game, Du Plessis said: “It was phenomenal performance from everyone. In terms of the scrum we are very happy, everyone played their part, all eight who started plus the guys who come off the bench.
“Munster have a very strong scrum, and today in our own back yard we knew what was coming and we took our chances at the set-piece we could. With a platform like that we can play on the front foot, and squeeze them and especially in that second half, they didn’t get the chance to leave their own territory much. We work very hard on our defence, and we talk about that ‘Wolf Pack’ mentality for games like that."
He added: “I think small talk on the pitch was there, the intensity and the buzz was there and we capitalised on that and turned them into points. It was great performance which gives a lot of confidence going into a huge game next week."
