Shaw praises Ransom in Bulls defeat
Coach Joe Shaw praised full-back Ben Ransom’s virtuoso performance in Saracens 26-39 defeat to Blue Bulls.
In an entertaining Sanlam Challenge contest at Allianz Park, Ransom was a continual thorn in the Blue Bulls side, with his mazy runs and buccaneering style of play igniting the contest on numerous occasions.
On Saracens' No15, Shaw said: “For us, seeing Ben play that well is no surprise. Every time he gets the ball he gets people on the edge of their seats, as he has the talent to make things happen. He had a great game.
"He’s a great player to have, and I think he showed everyone what he can do on today’s game."
On the game that yielded ten tries between the sides, Shaw added: “I thought our scrummaging was superb today. After 50 minutes of the game we had six penalties from scrums – we did really well in that regard. Like every game that we play, we went into the contest with a lot of energy and a lot of effort. The Bulls managed to do a pretty good job at lineout time to stop us and our momentum.
“They made things really slow for us so when we looked to go wide they spread their defence really well. They had some big men and they defended really well at holding us up in the tackle. It was difficult to get any attacks going, but we’re pleased with the effort overall.”
