Sorrell delighted with Storm victory
Coach Kevin Sorrell was delighted with the performance of Saracens Storm on Monday night when a 27-0 victory secured a home semi-final in the competition.
Tries from Nils Nordt, Jared Saunders, Nick Tompkins, Matt Hankin and Catalin Fercu secured the victory that puts the Storm into the final four of the competition with the semi-final a Allianz Park on Monday 5th January, 2015.
It took until the stroke of half time for the Storm to break the deadlock as they came up against a stubborn London Welsh side and a strong wind in the opening period.
"It was good to see how they dealt with a bit of adversity that first half as we were playing into a strong wind,” said Sorrell after the match.
“We coped pretty well with that and we got a lot of good field position but then we probably didn't get a return from our use of the ball. They could have got a bit frustrated and overplayed in that area so we tightened a few things up at half time and got the bonus point win. It was very pleasing for the boys.”
The evening also saw the final action at Allianz Park for Mouritz Botha before he joins The Sharks and the second row nearly rounded off his Saracens career with a conversion with the final kick of the game, but it went just a little bit wide of the posts!
"Mo deciding to play says a lot about him as a bloke and his affection for the club,” added Sorrell. “I remember his first game in the University of Cape Town, I was there for that, and I was there for his last game. It was great for him to be here…if only he’d scored that conversion at the end!"
