Spencer 'we did the club proud'
After scoring a brace of tries in impressive personal performance, scrum-half Ben Spencer was quick to pay tribute to the team effort after a young Saracens side nearly shocked Leicester Tigers at Welford Road.
"We had a young side, so to come to Welford Road and come away with two bonus points I couldn't be more proud of the guys. We stuck at it for 80 minute sand I believe were pretty unlucky not to come away with the win", said Spencer who also added two conversions.
"When we got the red card, I thought we pretty hard done by and it seemed to come out of nowhere. We'd said to ourselves leading up to the game that we were up for the challenge and I think we definitely put a marker down. It was a big challenge to play with 14-men for almost 35 minutes, but again it just shows the work rate of the team. We were a little bit unlucky".
On his wonderful solo-effort for his second try, he added: "It was all a bit heat of the moment really. I picked the ball up with quite a way to go. Luckily it's quite the shorter pitch here at Welford Road, if it were any longer I'm not sure I'd have finished it. It was great to get on the score sheet twice, but again I just can't fault the team effort. We truly did play the Saracens way, and we did the club proud".
