Squad in a 'good place' - George

Jamie George believes the Saracens squad are in rude health, after the club recorded two wins in an action packed weekend for the north Londoners.

George, who played his part in Saracens' second victory of the weekend against Western Province, praised a youthful Saracens side that went to Neath on Friday evening and beat the Ospreys 9-21 in the LV=Cup.

Speaking after his 60 minute display against Western Province, George said; “Getting two wins this weekend goes to show how strong we are as a club at the minute, and the strength and depth we have here. The Academy system we have is really delivering, and if you look at the team we put out on Friday night, a very young inexperienced team, they fronted up massively which is such a great sign for the club.

“Whenever I played in Storm (A-League) or in the LV=Cup games, the success of those guys is often an indicator of how well we are running the club, and how well the environment we are creating is. I think we are in a very good place at the minute and that’s shown over the last two results."

On Sunday’s game, the England Saxons hooker added; “It was a fast game. It was a really tough contest, they're not Currie Cup Champions for nothing – they’re a very good side. They a play different brand of rugby to us and it was a great experience to go up against a side who play that kind of rugby they are a first class outfit. We managed to suffocate them and did a good job of grinding them down. We actually scored some great tries ourselves, playing running rugby and with wingers like Stretts and Ashy they make it look very easy.”

Attention for Saracens now switches to Sunday’s fixture away to Leicester Tigers in the Premiership, and George believes their hit-out against the Currie Cup champions will put them in good stead for Saracens’ trip to Welford Road.

He said; “It is a huge game next Sunday, and I suppose it would be a little more difficult if we were going into it with some players not playing for two weeks.”

George added; “It was nice to get back out there and hopefully get our bodies ready for next week.”
