A rising star at the club, Matt Hankin is a Saracens Academy graduate whose family first influenced him to take up the game.

Encouraged to pursue the sport by his brother and grandfather, Hankin followed his sibling to Beckenham Rugby Club, where he picked up a rugby ball for the first time. Despite being a keen sportsman whilst at school, playing hockey and squash alongside rugby, it was his natural ability in the latter which led him to the club’s academy set up.

Matt made his senior debut in the Anglo-Welsh tournament (formerly the LV= Cup) in 2014 against London Irish, after having played a number of games for the Storm side. His series of impressive performances in the tournament didn’t go unnoticed, and Hankin was nominated for the breakthrough player of the year award in the competition.

The back rower was also part of the England U20’s side who won the Junior World Championship title in 2013, recording a shock win over the Junior All Blacks en route to a final win over Wales.
