A former England 7’s star who initially made his name in the forward pack of then Championship side Moseley, Mike Ellery’s pace caught the eye of Saracens selectors, and he joined up with the club after representing England at the 2014 Commonwealth games.

Whilst playing for the Birmingham-based Moseley, Ellery was playing at Number 8, where the England 7’s team picked up on his speed and running style, recruiting him to tour the world on the HSBC Sevens World Series. He made headlines in his two years on the 7’s circuit, with his best performances coming in the Dubai and Gold Coast tournaments in 2013, before heading to the Glasgow Commonwealth games where the England side won the Plate competition.

Due to his enormous potential with regards to his strength, speed and skills, the Saracens coaching team made the decision to move Mike to the wing upon his arrival, where he learnt from experienced XV’s players Chris Ashton and David Strettle during his first season with the club. He has continued to provide his hallmark pace to play an important part in the Sarries back line, and made over 40 appearances for the club.
