A dynamic and exciting player capable of covering any position across the back three, New Zealand-born Sean Maitland joined the club in 2016 from the then-relegated London Irish, bringing a wealth of rugby experience from both the northern and southern hemisphere.

An alumnus of prestigious rugby school Hamilton Boys’ High School, Maitland played for Super Rugby franchise Crusaders, before making the move north to sign for Glasgow Warriors in 2012, where he scored ten tries in 39 games in a three-year spell at Scotstoun Stadium.

His hard work and dedication off the field has contributed to some stunning performances over the 2016/17 campaign, and Maitland was unlucky to be ruled out towards the end of the season with injury, however, he was still an integral part of the Champions Cup winning squad.

On the international stage, Sean has represented the New Zealand under-19 team that won the World Cup in 2007, and the under-20 side that scooped the 2008 IRB Junior World Championship, however his senior appearances have been for the Scotland side. He qualifies through his paternal grandparents, who are both Glaswegian, and his glittering form (bar injury) has seen him play in Six Nations tournaments, as well as the Rugby World Cup in 2015. Maitland was also selected by Hamilton Boys’ High School alumnus Warren Gatland for the British and Irish Lions’ tour of Australia in 2013.
