Ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, Will Skelton’s focus was firmly on being the best player he could be for Saracens and it paid off.
Mark McCall described Skelton’s 2018 summer transformation as ‘like having a new player’.
The Australia international shed the pounds and was instrumental in Sarries’ double-winning campaign, earning the Players’ Player of the Year award at the end of the season as a result.
A towering lock with bulldozing physicality and superb offloading game, Skelton was born in New Zealand and moved to Australia aged 10. A former junior Rugby League Player, he picked up union as a teenager whilst attending Sydney’s Hills Sports High School.
He joined the Waratahs Academy in 2011 and made his senior debut two years later against the Stormers in Super Rugby before facing the British & Irish Lions.
In 2016/17, the ex-Sydney University forward moved to the northern hemisphere on loan with the Men in Black. He impressed immensely during his two-month stay that he returned ahead of the following campaign.
Skelton earned many plaudits in 2018/19 and was named in the BT Sport Dream Team of the Season.
