'The future looks bright' - Gill
Rhys Gill produced a colossal performance from loosehead prop during Saracens Storm victorious A-League final.
The experienced front rower led from the front and made a series of telling contributions both at the set-piece and in the loose, and speaking after the game the humble Welshman praised his younger teammates after a superb A-League campaign.
Gill said: “They say you judge the strength of the club by the players coming through their Academy, and we’re doing well in that regard. We’re in a good place and the future of Saracens looks like it’s in good hands.
“The boys are so happy right now. We’re over the moon. They’ve all put in a massive shift, both tonight and throughout the entire A-League campaign. Guys like Maro Itoje have been amazing all campaign, and was again tonight.
“Hayden Smith was brilliant and he changed the game for us tonight in the last five minutes with some big hits that gave the boys a lot energy. Matt Hankin was great and put in a huge shift. They were a good side, and conditions were rubbish tonight so the boys really had to get stuck in.
“Our nine and ten really controlled the game tonight. Speno’s (Ben Spencer) kicking out of hand and from the tee was superb and Nils (Mordt) did the basics really well. The talk out there was great, the whole team was superb.”
Gill added: “It’s great to see these younger guys come through the Academy and play so well. The future looks exciting for Saracens.”
