Tompkins hails teammates 'support'

Academy centre Nick Tompkins came off the bench yesterday to produce a Man of the Match performance in Saracens 40-19 win against Sale Sharks at Allianz Park on Saturday afternoon.

In what was the 19-year-olds Premiership debut, the England U20s Junior World Championship midfielder’s assured display alongside Duncan Taylor at centre was praised by Director of Rugby Mark McCall as "fantastic".

Tompkins, who replaced Saracens captain Brad Barritt (who left the field with a calf problem) just 10 minutes into the match, praised his fellow teammates for making him feel at ease during his home Premiership debut.

“The support I got from all of the other boys was great,” said Tompkins. “Guys like Stretts, Ashy, Goodey and Dunc really help you – they talk you through the game and it makes you so easy for you. They just kept telling me to relax and enjoy the match. It was an amazing experience."
