'We are becoming one club' - Alphonsi
Former Saracens Women and England captain Maggie Alphonsi is delighted with the ladies’ new found home, Allianz Park.
The international flanker spoke of her excitement upon hearing the news: “It’s absolutely fantastic. We’re now here to stay with the boys and in terms of going forward it’s really positive we are becoming one club. A partnership with a professional club (Saracens) is really exciting.
“We are really fortunate to have had the backing from Saracens; they've been absolutely supportive of us over the last couple of years. To have a formal partnership now is really positive for the future."
Aphonsi believes it’s a step in the right direction for women’s rugby: “Hopefully we're setting the precedent in terms of women’s rugby going forward. We’ve now got a fantastic facility; and to be able to train at the stadium is brilliant.
"Just being able to have a crowd and to have the support at each game is really positive. Hopefully it will encourage other teams to go down that route with their men’s sides.”
She added: “It means a lot that teams will now come to our ground and get to play in this special stadium - this will only encourage more women to get involved in the sport.”
