'We showed a lot of character' - Itoje
Saracens Storm captain Maro Itoje lauded his side’s ‘character’ after their 10-31 win away to London Irish ‘A’ in the Premiership ‘A’ League.
“I felt we went really well. We showed a lot of character as we were down at half-time,” said lock-forward Itoje, who led from the front in an impressive individual display.
“At the break we realised that we were failing at certain aspect of the game. We talked about it at half-time, rectified those mistakes and turned them into positives. It was fantastic result.”
It was Itoje’s second game as Storm skipper, and the 19-year-old admitted he has relished the extra responsibility.
“I’ve loved it so far,” he said. “It’s been really good to be playing, and getting some quality minutes under my belt. We have a great blend of experience and youth in the side, and the energy and enthusiasm is second to none."
On Saracens Storm’s next ‘A’ League assignment away to Bath United at The Rec on Monday September 29, he added; “Bath’s first and second teams are always very good, they have such a strong rugby heritage. Playing them will always be a tough game. Last time we played them in the ‘A’ League it was difficult night for us, so next Monday night is a challenge that we’re all looking forward to.”
