'We stepped up' - Barritt
Brad Barritt spoke of his pride of Saracens performance after his side's resounding 33-10 win over Munster in round 5 of the European Rugby Champions Cup.
In his comeback game after recovering from a leg injury sustained during England’s clash against Australia during the autumn internationals, the inside centre was at the heart of a committed Saracens performance at Allianz Park.
Speaking after the game, Barritt said: “We’re all so proud here at Sarries to put in a performance like that in front of our home crowd. We felt it’s been a long time coming, and we’re all really pleased that we could do it on the day Kelly Brown made his 100th Saracens appearance, and make it a very special occasion.
“I think the boys stepped up brilliantly. The pack set a great platform and the backs took some fantastic chances at took the game to Munster. It’s a huge confidence builder to go into half-time 23-3 up after two great tries. As a team we feel we’re in a great place and we now we have a huge challenge next weekend in Clermont, so it’s about us getting back to basics in the week and working hard for next Sunday’s game.”
On returning to the side, he added: “It’s fantastic to be back. Obviously it’s been frustrating not to being involved during the last six weeks, but it’s just great to be involved in a great Saracens performance once again, I’m very thankful for all the great work behind the scenes from our medical and strength and conditioning staff who have worked so hard to get me back out on the pitch.”
