SARACENS WOMEN’S PATHWAY
The Saracens Women Pathway provides clear opportunities for players to progress through the grassroots club game into an elite performance setting, with the aim to retain players that will contribute to the club’s successful senior domestic teams, and develop the England national team for years to come.
Saracens Women are one of nine clubs within the PWR, covering the counties of Hertfordshire, Essex, and Eastern Counties. Players from these County’s, but limited to, have Saracens as their hub to progress to the elite end of the game.
Upcoming Open Days (Register Now):
“To be the leading pathway programme in the country which develops and produces hard-working, talented individuals who are able to transition into the Saracens senior women’s side”.

In 2018 Saracens Women established a full-time performance programme for players aged 16 to 18yrs based at Oaklands College, St Albans. This academy offers ambitious players an opportunity to participate in a full-time elite performance environment while pursuing their full-time education.
Oaklands College offers a range of BTEC and A-level courses which run alongside the rugby programme creating a full blend of performance training and study. Players will be supported in their career progression as well as helping them achieve the highest level possible on the pitch.
More than just on-field training, this performance programme provides all players access to elite performance resources such as:
- Saracens performance staff
- Strength and conditioning
- Medical
- Nutrition
- Sports psychology
- Video analysis
- IDPs
- Tailored Empower her programme with the Saracens foundation
- Coaching and refereeing opportunities with Saracens
How Do I Apply?
Step 1: Attend an open day
We have two open days, Monday 27th October 2025 and Monday 16th February 2026.
These open days serve as an opportunity for you to gain an understanding of the elite performance programme which we offer, based at Oaklands College. You will have opportunities to view and experience our state of the art facilities, including our brand new High Performance Centre, as well as be coached by and meet our performance staff who run the programme. Alongside exposure to the rugby programme, Oaklands College staff and residential team will be on site to discuss any academic or residential questions you may have.
Step 2: Apply to the College
To be considered for the rugby programme, you must have an offer to study on a course based at Oaklands College.
You can apply for your chosen course here.
Step 3: Attend a Trial Date - Sunday 19th April 2026.
If you have decided to apply to the college, and in turn the rugby programme, the next step is a trial. This will be held at Oaklands College and will be served as a tool to assess players abilities and behaviours to see if they have the capabilities to join the Saracens Women Pathway Programme. All players will be made aware of their application outcome by the 13th June 2026.
The Diploma in Sporting Excellence is a qualification specifically designed for learners with an opportunity to be assessed on their ability to work towards, and fulfil the role and requirements of an elite sports performer.
This is an additional qualification (64 UCAS Points awarded) which is studied alongside a player’s main course, it is not a standalone qualification.
Players will be selected as a DiSE player based on Academy and PDG status, as well as academic drivers and goals, at the Pathway Coaches discretion, this will then be followed with a 1-1 Interview process with the player.

We are very proud that since 2018 we have had a series of players progress into the Senior Saracens squad and gain international honours. Outside of this, many players have continued their rugby journey, and have moved onto university, apprenticeships as well as full time employment.
