Wyles to lead USA in Pacific Nations Cup
Saracens’ Chris Wyles will captain the U.S. this summer as the Men’s Eagles prepare for Rugby World Cup 2015 England with a four-match World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup campaign.
The club’s leading scorer in a victorious 2014/15 Aviva Premiership campaign has been named Eagles skipper and will assume the captaincy role beginning with the team’s assembly in northern California. The Eagles will play Samoa in San Jose July 18 before taking on Japan in Sacramento July 24. Both opponents are in Pool B with the U.S. at the World Cup.
“Chris has been one of the most respected and successful Eagles of all time and has been a selfless and proud Eagle for nearly a decade,” Head Coach Mike Tolkin said. “His success as a professional player with Saracens, matched with the respect that he has garnered with his teammates throughout his career, makes him a natural choice as captain.”
Joining Wyles in the 36-man squad are fellow Sarries Titi Lamositele and Hayden Smith, plus Thretton Palamo who is set to join London Welsh on loan.
Saracens Global Network partner club Seattle Saracens have three players in Mike Tolkin’s squad, with Olive Kilifi, Louis Stanfill and Shalom Suniula all named.
